Shopping Traditions in Three Countries

Imagen
A. Shopping in the United States  Americans have celebrated Black Friday since 1932. It is the day after Thanksgiving Day in the US. It has been the biggest shopping day of the year ever since because many shops offer low prices on many items. Since 1932, shops have opened their doors at 5.00 a.m. Hundreds of customers come in quickly to buy Christmas presents. In recent years, shoppers have chosen to shop online because they don’t like the crowds. B. Shopping in Colombia December has always been a time to go shopping in Colombia. However, Colombians have started to forget some Christmas traditions because they have become a consumer society. In the past they prayed to baby Jesus in the “novena” and sang carols. Today these traditions have diminished because new generations think that Christmas means going shopping. C. Shopping in the United Kingdom In the UK, people have always celebrated Boxing Day . It is the day after Christmas Day, on 26th December. Boxing D...

Describing Quito city

Imagen
Hello! My name is Angélica and I’m from Ecuador, a wonderful country in South America. I live in Quito, which is the capital city and has around 2.6 million inhabitants. Quito is a really old city, it dates from the 16th century and there are more than 130 old buildings in the historic centre! We only have two seasons here in Quito: summer, or the dry season, and winter, or the rainy season. I can’t decide which I like the best: the sunny summer days or the cooler, rainy winter days. The most wonderful thing about living here is that around Quito there are numerous mountains and volcanoes. The nearest volcano is the Pichincha! You can actually see it from my house! Another fantastic place to visit not far from Quito is the La Mitad del Mundo or Equator monument and museum. Can you guess exactly where La Mitad del Mundo is?
