Rio de Janeiro, The Marvelous City

Rio de Janeiro is the second largest and most famous Brazilian city, local people call it "the marvelous city" because it is surrounded by three green mountains, a lagoon and more than ten beaches. Rio has a total area of 43,653 km2

It is known for its annual carnival, which is celebrated in spring; the carnival in Rio de Janeiro is considered the biggest in the world, with around 2 million people celebrating on the streets each day.

The daily average temperature ranges from 21°C in July to 27°C in January and February. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese. Rio has a population of over 6 million people; almost a quarter of its people live in poor neighborhoods called favelas.
Nowadays, Rio is certainly the world's capital of football, with its world-class Maracanã stadium, and sports in general, having hosted the 2016 Summer Olympics.

There are lots of different places to visit in Rio, for example, the statue of Christ The Redeemer at the top of Corcovado Mountain, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches or Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.
On the other hand, there are lots of different things to do in Rio, for example, try local food, enjoy traditional dances such as samba and choro or attend the carnival.
