The form of the verb to be is was/were in the past.

You were disappointed (tú estabas decepcionado)
He was happy (Él estaba feliz)
She was excited (Ella estaba emocionada)
It was sad (Era triste)

They were bored (Ellos estaban aburridos)

The negative form is wasn’t (was not) / weren’t (were not)

  • Yes, she was / No, she wasn’t
  •
  • Were we sleepy? (¿estábamos nosotros con sueño?)
